Cache County Sheriff Lynn Nelson said a 2-year-old had been shot and he said he believes another young sibling accidentally shot the 2-year-old. A press release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office stated the child was shot with a .22 rifle. The release stated that other family members, including the child’s parents, were at the residence when the incident occurred.

Nelson said the child was taken to Logan Regional Hospital, and as of 8:28 p.m. he said the child was in surgery.

Specific details regarding the events surrounding the accident were not provided, though Nelson said the gun may have been stored behind a door. The extent of the injuries to the child were not immediately clear.
